Job Description:


The Assistant Ski Area General Manager at King Pine Ski Resort serves as the assistant to the Ski Resort General Manager. They are responsible for the daily operations of all departments on property. Through scheduling weekly meetings, property walks, brainstorming sessions, and coaching sessions the manager directs department managers to achieve the goals set forth by the GM. The successful manager proactively identifies areas for improvement or efficiency, formulates a plan and works to implement it with the blessing of the GM. The manager also functions as the counselor to the GM, working as a sounding board for personnel decisions and major projects.


 


Responsibilities Include:



  • Maintains a weekly schedule that will share the daily coverage of (MOD) Manager on Duty responsibilities, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Supports all departments in daily operations, communicating with each supervisor and manager to determine needs and allocating time accordingly

  • Works closely with the General Manager in establishing and monitoring polices/guidelines in the daily operations to ensure profitability and consistency.

  • Supports sales by working collaboratively with the Sales Manager, assisting with lead responses and managing the group rooms process for successful execution.

  • Responds to and reports emergencies by: adhering to the Ski Area Emergency Plan and current corporate risk management and safety guidelines; contacting appropriate resort key contacts; accurately completing an incident report immediately following all emergencies, accidents, or incidents; debriefing with the property manager; coordinating the timely completion and submission of incident reports; and distributing completed incident reports to the appropriate parties.

  • Assists department managers with constructive coaching and counseling, plans individual managers meetings, including the timely completion of annual reviews.

  • Appropriately handle associate issues in conjunction with Human Resources following Highway West Vacations policies.

  • Responds to Guest Surveys, guest reviews and email survey responses as needed

  • Handles guest complaints and contentious issues and provides prompt resolution

  • Develops a positive working relationship with all property team members.

  • Resolves interpersonal disputes between property employees

  • Develops and curates a property culture, with a focus on sincere customer service.

  • Ensures orientation, training, and on-boarding of new team members is thorough and completed in a timely fashion, according to company training standards.

  • Assists department supervisors with constructive coaching and counseling, plans individual supervisor meetings, including the timely completion of annual reviews.

  • Assists with time and attendance payroll.

  • Provides technical support for all POS systems

  • Manages labor costs, reviewing schedules and suggesting adjusted staffing levels when necessary to ensure labor cost goals are met.

  • Works closely with the General Manager and Director of Revenue Management on budgeting, sales strategies, promotions, and forecasting.

  • Fosters a safe working environment in compliance with OSHA standards by ensuring that all team members are compliant with company-mandated training programs.

  • Attends weekly property walk with leadership team, follows up on action items to ensure completion together with General Manager

  • Performs other duties, including: participate in Ski Area management meetings, serve on Ski Area committees, complete projects as assigned.

  • Training skills, must have the ability to assess skill level of employees and modify training as needed.

  • Strong mentoring skills: must have the ability to mentor employees through role modeling, supervision and feedback.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

  • Professional demeanor

  • Proficient computer skills, including: Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Must be able to work on feet for extended periods

  • Must be able to work a flexible work schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.

  • Understands and consistently adheres to all Highway West Vacations policies and procedures as outlined in company policy and procedure documents.

  • Understands and consistently adheres to personal job responsibilities, standards of performance, and reporting structure, as outlined in job description and standards of performance documents.

  • Education: Associates Degree Required; Bachelor’s Degree Preferred; Ski Area Management/Hospitality/ Tourism Management Preferred

  • Minimum Job-Related Experience: 3 year - 4 years

  • Skills – Writing: Frequently writes lengthy non-standard reports and analysis

  • Skills – Computer: Uses a variety of advanced and basic programs to perform responsibilities including data management and analysis

  • Lift/Carry/Pull/Push up to 20 lbs.

  • Ability and knowledge of skiing or snowboarding preferred

  • Prior ski area management experience

  • A working knowledge of all aspects of a ski area
