Job Purpose
To direct and coordinate the operations of the Marine department concerned with the production, pricing, sales, and ship repair projects, overseeing multiple locations.
Reviews financial statements, sales, activity reports and other performance data to measure productivity and goal achievement. Determines areas needing cost reduction and program improvement. Establishes and implements departmental policies, goals, objectives and procedures.
Oversee the full scope of the Ship Repair projects and engage with current and new clients to secure opportunities to ensure the business unit is sustainable.
Monitors business to ensure that they efficiently and effectively provide the needed services while staying within budgetary limits.
Minimum Requirements:
Qualification in Project Management/Commercial/Technical or equivalent
8-10 years’ experience in the Ship Repair industry on middle leadership team level
Advantage- 4-year degree in Project Engineering
Key Job Outputs
Revenue Forecasting, Budgets and Financial Statements
Ensure accurate forecasts and progress at WIP meetings, including cash flow.
Prepare an annual budget; schedule expenditures; analyse variances; initiating corrective actions
Monitor and report any deviation from forecast or budget timeously in terms of schedule and budget.
Oversee budgeting, reporting, and planning
Analyse data to inform operational decisions / activities
Analyse financial records to improve efficiency
Communicate monthly financial statements of business unit with employees (BU Meetings) to create understanding and promote improvement
Direct activities of Business Unit
(All activities pertaining to the production, pricing and sales of activities)
Direct organisational operations, projects and services
Work with board of directors to determine values and plan for long term goals
Review and approve all operational invoices
Communicate all operating policies and/or issues at department meetings
Coordinates with other support departments such as human resources, finance, and logistics to ensure successful production operations
Contract and Client Management
Oversee project plans
Negotiate terms and conditions of contracts and ensure it is managed accordingly.
Ensure the control of labour hours against budgets.
Ensure the control of costs against estimates.
Handle any client related difficulties to assist the Project Manager.
(Communicate customer issues with operations team and devise ways of improving the customer experience, including resolving problems and complaints)
Oversee the profitability of projects.
